7. Making Continuous Progress
Kubicle can be a long-term continuous learning resource if you adopt the right learning habits. In this lesson, we’ll outline the habits of effective learning and help you maintain long-term progress in your learning with Kubicle.
Lesson Goal (00:10)
The goal of this lesson is to learn how to maintain long-term learning habits using Kubicle.
Long Term Learning (00:17)
You’ll want to complete a wide variety of Kubicle courses in order to become properly data literate. In order to do this, it’s useful to understand how you can learn effectively.
Effective Learning Habits (01:14)
There are several tips that can help you learn effectively.
First, you should identify your long term learning objectives, and what skills you need to achieve those objectives. You can then determine how Kubicle can help you get there.
Second, you should make consistent time for learning. It’s much better to spend a small, consistent amount of time learning than to cram to meet a deadline. You should set aside time for learning every week, setting yourself manageable goals based on the number of courses you want to complete and the time available to you. If you devote 30 minutes to learning 3 times a week, you’ll find you make good progress towards your objectives.
Third, get your working environment right. Keep your workspace uncluttered, use good quality headphones so you’re not distracted by background noise, and use two screens if possible. This lets you watch the lesson on one screen, and apply what you’re learning on the other.
Fourth, reward yourself when you achieve your learning goals. You can reward yourself in whatever way feels right for you. This will help you keep up the habit of consistent learning over time.
Kubicle as a Resource (02:45)
You’ll earn a certificate for each course you complete on Kubicle. You can view all your certificates from the certificate view, which can be accessed by selecting the Certificates Awarded link on the dashboard.
You can use Kubicle as a long-term learning resource. If you need to search for content on a particular topic, you can use the search bar at the top of the screen, which returns content that can be filtered by subject. You can also browse the entire library by selecting Explore in the top right of the screen. New content is added frequently, so you should make sure to check in if you haven’t visited for a while.
Course Summary (04:17)
In this course, we covered the following topics:
Importance of data literacy
Understanding Kubicle’s library
How Kubicle provides data literacy
The previous lesson, we learned how to complete a course on Kubicle. In this lesson, we'll learn how to maintain long-term learning habits using Kubicle.
We saw in the last lesson how to complete a single Kubicle course. However, you'll obviously want to complete a lot more than one course in order to really expand your data literacy skills.
You'll see that your organization has provided a semester of courses for you to follow. This is a structured learning experience that you should aim to complete within a defined period of time. In many cases, your organization will specify an end date that you'll be able to see on your dashboard.
You might find yourself wondering how to go about this. Well, before you dive right in, let's talk about how to learn effectively.
Often the biggest challenge to learning is not understanding concepts in individual lessons or courses, but motivating yourself to learn in a sustainable effective way. Let's discuss a few tips for how to manage that challenge.
First, identify your learning objectives. As we've discussed previously, learning should be seen as a continuous lifetime process. Even if you don't know where you'd like to be in 10 years time, you probably have some idea of what skills you'd like to have in three. You can then work at what skills you'd like to develop to get to where you want to be and understand how Kubicle can help you get there.
Second, make consistent time for learning.
If you have to complete your courses by a certain deadline, you don't want to cram everything into the last few days. You might pass the exams, but you won't properly retain the information. Instead, try to make room for consistent learning time that can be sustained over time. This means setting aside time in your calendar to devote to learning. Set yourself manageable weekly goals based on the number of courses you want to complete and the time you have to complete them. If you devote 30 minutes to learning three times a week, you should comfortably be able to complete a typical Kubicle course in two weeks or less, including time spent on lessons, exercises, and exams.
Third, get your working environment right. Ensure your space is uncluttered and free of distractions. Wear good quality headphones that let you focus without being distracted by background noise and use two screens if possible. This lets you watch a lesson on one screen and apply what you learn on another.
Fourth, reward yourself. Make sure you reward yourself when you achieve your goals. We'll provide you with certificates and credits, but we want to make sure you really feel it. For example, you might reward yourself with some socialization where you tell everyone how clever you've become thanks to Kubicle. You might down the exact opposite road and reward yourself with some alone time, binge-watching a TV show you've been eager to see. Or maybe you'll just get yourself a cake.
Whatever your reward is, try and find inventive ways to help you keep up with the habit of consistent learning with Kubicle.
For every course you complete on Kubicle, you'll earn a certificate. You can view all your certificates through the Certificate view, which can be accessed from the dashboard by selecting the Certificates Awarded link in the top right.
This will show you all the certificates you've earned to date. And if you want, you can share them on LinkedIn to show everyone how knowledgeable you've become. Even if you've completed all your courses, you can still come back to Kubicle as a useful learning resource. If you ever need to find a lesson on some point of interest, you can use the search bar at the top of the screen, which will direct you to the relevant content. As you can see, you can filter search results by subject to help find exactly what you're looking for. You can also browse the complete library of Kubicle courses by selecting Explore on the top right of the screen. This will show you the complete set of subjects that Kubicle offers content in. Our library is frequently updated with new courses and subjects, so it's well worth visiting periodically.
This concludes our course on learning data literacy. In this course, we first discussed the importance of data literacy in the modern business world and then explored the ways in which Kubicle's library can help you come to grips with these changes. We then introduced you to the Kubicle platform, explaining how you can begin your journey to become a data citizen ready for the future of work. If you're doing this course, it's clear you've already started your journey, so make sure you claim your certificate by completing the course exam.
